About Us
Jigeeni Half-Die United is a committed youth organization based in Banjul South (Half-Die Ward) in the Greater Banjul Area. We are a non-political and non-partisan community group dedicated to fostering unity, peace, and positive social transformation.
Our initiative was born out of the urgent need to rebuild harmony within our community, which has experienced divisions caused by self-hate, tribalism, political rivalry, and other social challenges. We believe that unity is the foundation for sustainable development and a stronger future for our youth.
Why We Exist
Half-Die is rich in history, culture, and talent. However, division and social challenges have weakened our collective strength. Jigeeni Half-Die United exists to restore trust, rebuild relationships, and create a positive environment where every young person feels valued and supported.
We believe that when youth are united, empowered, and guided, they become agents of peace and progress.
Founded to address division caused by tribalism, political rivalry, self-hate, and social challenges, we engage youths through social, cultural, and faith-based initiatives that promote peace, awareness, and empowerment.
Our key activities include:
- Annual Quranic Competition
- Awarding hardworking and impactful women of Half-Die
- Youth engagement programs
- Advocacy against violence, drugs, prostitution, and irregular migration (“Backway” syndrome)
We believe that united youth can transform communities.
Join us. Support us. Grow with us.
What We Do
Community Unity & Engagement
We organize social and cultural activities that bring young people together regardless of background, tribe, or political affiliation. Through dialogue, entertainment, and shared experiences, we promote togetherness and solidarity.
Through community discussions, events, and youth-centered programs, we educate and inspire positive change.
We create platforms for socializing, cultural exchange, mentorship, and responsible entertainment to help redirect youthful energy toward meaningful and productive engagement.
Awareness & Advocacy
We actively advocate against pressing social challenges such as:
We promote peace, respect, and non-violence within our community. Through awareness programs and community engagement, we educate young people on conflict resolution, tolerance, and the importance of living together peacefully.
Drug abuse remains a serious threat to the future of our youth. We work to educate young people about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage healthy lifestyles, responsible choices, and positive peer influence.
Economic hardship and social pressures sometimes push vulnerable individuals into prostitution. Our advocacy focuses on awareness, moral guidance, and community support aimed at protecting dignity and promoting alternative opportunities for a better future.
Many young people face frustration due to unemployment and limited opportunities. We encourage hope, resilience, and community support while promoting skills development and positive engagement to help youth believe in their potential.
Irregular migration, commonly known as the “Backway,” has cost many young lives. We raise awareness about its dangers and promote informed decision-making, encouraging young people to pursue safer and sustainable opportunities at home.
We organize programs that empower young people through mentorship, education, skills training, and community service. These initiatives help youth develop confidence, leadership, and the ability to contribute positively to society.
Honoring Our Hardworking Women
Every year, we proudly organize an Award Ceremony for Hardworking and Dedicated Women of Half-Die Ward who have made a positive impact in society.
These awards aim to:
- Recognize women who contribute meaningfully to community development.
- Celebrate resilience, leadership, and service.
- Inspire younger generations, especially young girls, to strive for excellence.
- Promote appreciation for the role of women in nation-building.
Our Annual Quranic Competition
One of our flagship programs is our Annual Quranic Competition, which brings together various Quranic centers within and beyond Half-Die Ward.
This initiative:
- Encourages Islamic learning and moral discipline.
- Promotes healthy competition among young students.
- Strengthens spiritual values within the community.
- Recognizes and rewards excellence in Quranic recitation.
We believe faith-based activities play a vital role in shaping responsible and disciplined youth.
